Mexico's Cursed Day Saved Thousands of Lives:

An earthquake struck again on Monday, September 19, off the west coast of Mexico. The magnitude of this earthquake, which occurred at one o'clock in the afternoon (11:30 Indian time), was recorded at 7.6 on the Richter scale. This earthquake occurred when people came out on the streets to celebrate the anniversary of two major earthquakes in 1985 and 2017. People were doing earthquake mock drills and were out of their homes so only one person died in the earthquake. However, several buildings have been damaged.

Earlier on 19 September 1985, a magnitude 8.1 earthquake in Mexico City killed more than 10,000 people and damaged hundreds of buildings. In 2017, an earthquake of 7.1 magnitude occurred on the same day. About 370 people were killed in it. This is the reason that people here consider the day of 19th September as cursed.

An 8.1 magnitude earthquake occurred
in 1985 On September 19, 1985, an 8.1 magnitude earthquake struck Mexico City. The tremors of the earthquake lasted only two minutes, but were felt as far as Los Angeles, about 3 thousand km away. More than 10 thousand people died in this earthquake, 30 thousand people were injured while about 2.50 lakh people became homeless. More than 400 buildings collapsed and thousands were damaged. The next day the aftershock intensity was measured at 7.5.

There was a 7.1 magnitude earthquake
in 2017 Mexico was hit by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake on 19 September 2017. Its center was about 160 km from Mexico City. About 40 buildings had collapsed in this earthquake. Several cars got buried under the rubble in which many people were trapped. About 370 people died in this earthquake.

Tsunami alert on the
west coast Here, a tsunami alert has been issued on the west coast. Mild tremors were also felt in the capital Mexico City, 500 km from here. There is no information about any casualty in the capital. According to seismologists, the epicenter of the quake was 59 km south of Colcomán in Michoacan state, 15 km from the ground near the Pacific coast.

According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, waves up to 3 meters high can hit Mexico. Early waves have already arrived in coastal cities such as Manzanillo and Acapulco. Tsunami waves of less than 0.3 meters are expected along the Pacific coasts of Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Peru.
